The look and the mask

Only the strength of the look creates the moment of spiritual revelation of the other, personified in a material body.
The art pieces of Daniel Romano become part of that meeting, as a revelation.
His pictorial pieces open the map of the face, as a silent portrait of a secret bonding at the moment of the meeting with the other.
Their eyes look at us calm, serene and vulnerable, opening an emotional, deep, revealing and moving sea.
Different states of sentimental connection appear in these pieces. His paintings enable the peace of contemplation, and in that territory, we immerse in the blue eyes that lead us to the deep sea and we look around the faces that split, watching us in a state of introspection.
In his series of multiplied portraits, the reference to Warhol is strengthened from a barthesian perspective. In the same way as “Camera Lucida” by Roland Barthes, an old and beloved family picture is used as a kaleidoscope of memories, bringing that other from the past to the multiple colorful forms of the present.
Here, the look is an emotional memory, that special image touched by the “punctum” of a desire, which is recovered in a happy and seductive way by the plastic beauty.
The other state of the look appears in his series of silver and golden masks. There, face and mask fuse together and, as occurred in ancient civilizations, the sacred aspect emerges, changing the interior state, with an already immaterial form, as the light is the face and the look is the heavenly abyss.

Para el proyecto MASK
La mirada y la máscara
Fabiana Barreda, curadora.
Solo la fuerza de la mirada es el instante de revelación del espíritu del otro encarnado en un cuerpo material.
Las obras de Daniel Romano se inscriben en ese encuentro como revelación.
Sus piezas pictóricas abren el mapa del rostro como el retrato silencioso de una unión secreta al momento del encuentro con el otro.
Sus ojos nos observan quietos, serenos y vulnerables abriendo un mar emocional, profundo, develador y conmocionante.
Diferentes estados de conexión afectiva aparecen en las obras, sus pinturas permiten la quietud de la contemplación, es en ese territorio donde nos sumergimos en ojos azules hacia lo profundo del mar y recorremos caras que se desdoblan observándonos en estado de introspección.
En su serie de retratos multiplicados, la cita a Warhol se potencia desde una perspectiva barthesiana. Como en el texto de Roland Barthes “La cámara lúcida”, una querida foto familiar antigua es tomada como un caleideidoscopio de recuerdos, actualizando ese otro del pasado en múltiples formas coloreadas en el presente.
Aquí la mirada es memoria afectiva, esa imagen especial marcada por el “punctum” del deseo, es recuperada alegre y seductoramente por la belleza plástica.
El otro estado de la mirada aparece en su serie de mascaras plateadas y doradas. Allí rostro y máscara se fusionan, y como en las antiguas culturas, lo sagrado emerge transmutando el estado interior, de forma ya inmaterial, ya que la luz es rostro y la mirada abismo celestial.
